Light's Statue
North Adelaide

Car parking: Nearby parking is only 2 hours. But as the site has few trees, your painting gear is visible to other painters when moving the car mid-morning.

Parking on the Eastern side of Strangways Tce. is usually 3 hours, but this may be overriden by a limit of 2 hours for special events, such as tennis at Memorial Drive.

Toilets: The nearest toilet would be upstairs in the Archer Street shopping centre.

Marino Rocks

Parking: at corner of Marine Parade and Jervois Street.

Toilets: beside car park

The Rocks restaurant opposite the car park is open for lunch.

The car park is on sloping ground, and there is a steep walk down to the rocks. The boardwalk toward Seacliff is reasonably level, and leads to a lookout area with a bench seat.

I didn't notice any shaded areas.

Michael Perry Reserve
Stonyfell

Toilets: in the reserve.

The Directions button gives the Google Maps reference for the main entrance from Kurrajong Avenue.

There is some street parking near the entrance, but some more distant spaces are lost due to the street lanes separating around trees.

If parking there is not convenient, there are alternative parks in Willowbridge Grove. Although that involves some extra walking, it is on level ground.

For the main entrance (1), turn left from Greenhill Rd onto Hallett Rd.

For Willowbridge Grove (2), drive a little further on Greenhill Rd, then left onto St Albans Drive.

Location: War Memorial Drive, North Adelaide

Car parking and public toilets: These are both near to the railway station (see map)

Unfortunately, we have learnt that we do not have permission to paint on the railway platform areas. But there are good views from nearby areas. The platform had the advantage of being sheltered from sun and rain.

Palmer Gardens
Palmer Place, North Adelaide

Parking: Palmer Place, Kermode Street, and much of Ward Street, have only 2 hour parking.  Jeffcott Street and part of Ward Street have some 3 hour parking. As the site is an open space, painting gear is visible to others when moving the car after 2 hours.

Port River Expressway
Under - on the Birkenhead Hotel side

Nearest toilets are at the Birkenhead Hotel.

There is car parking beside the dirt road to the bridge, and in front of the wire fence at the end of the road.  It's a short 50 metre walk to the area under the bridge, which provides shelter from rain.

Bring warm clothing, as the breeze from the water can be quite cold.

State Library forecourt and Mortlock wing
North Terrace

Subjects: There are iconic old buildings and statues along North Terrace, with spaces to sit and work outdoors that aren’t crowded.

The Adelaide Festival finishes two days after our first Friday there, while the Fringe will be on for the first two Fridays, which may add interest to local scenery.

Parking: Paid meter parking in Kintore Ave, and in Victoria Drive alongside the Torrens River (3 hours). Parking stations along North Terrace.  Longer paid parking is available in Plane Tree Drive, Botanic Park. There is a free City Connector bus service 98A and 98C which can be accessed from North Adelaide, it has a stop just before North Terrace. If using minimal equipment, public transport to the city may be an option.

Toilets: There are public toilets inside the State Library (in the glass entry foyer and on level 1 near the Treasures Wall), and in Museums and the Art Gallery. Coffee is also available in these buildings, and the State Library cafe has the best reviews.

Parking: When I visited at 1 pm on a Thursday, there were 3 hour parks available at the edge of Fullarton Rd near the grandstand. Further south, the parks are marked permit only, and at the very southern entrance there are only a few 3 hour parks available.
I couldn’t see any vacant spaces in the all-day parks on Wakefield Rd. on the northern side of the park.

Toilets: at the rear of the grandstand, and in the centre of the sports oval.

Coffee: there is a licensed café/restaurant downstairs in the grandstand, which serves coffee and milkshakes, open for breakfast and lunch.

Wetlands:
Located at the southern end of the sports fields; parking near East and South Terraces may give better access to the wetlands.
